Genes
in development and behaviour
Presented by Dr
Ruth Arkell, Dr
Ryszard Maleszka &
Prof Rob Saint
Molecular
Genetics & Evolution Group
This
workshop will be presented in two parts to ensure
the diversity of research undertaken by this group
is well covered.
In
part 1, Dr Ruth Arkell and Dr Eldon Ball will give
short talks on their research on the molecular control
of development in mice and corals, respectively. You
will then be given the opportunity to perform in situ
hybridisations or antibody stainings to examine gene
expression in specific developmental stages of corals,
flies and mice.
In
part 2, Dr Ryszard Maleszka will give a short talk
on honeybee genomics and behaviour, following which
you will be shown how honeybees can be trained…..
There
will be a coffee break providing an opportunity for
discussion with a group of Honours/PhD students.
Prof
Robert Saint will then give a short talk on the remarkable
behaviours of cells during animal development. You
will see how we can view cells in living embryos and
carry out an experiment that is part of our research
program to discover genes that regulate these developmental
processes
