L'Oreal-UNESCO for Women
in Science Awards 2006
Professor Jenny Graves of the Research School of Biological Sciences was
recognised as the Asia-Pacific Prize-Winner of the L'Oreal-UNESCO for Women
in Science Awards 2006.
Honorary Doctorate
Professor Graham Farquhar of the Research School of Biological Sciences
was awarded the degree of Doctor of Science (Hon caus) by the University
of Antwerp.
Australian Academy of Science
Prof Susanne von Caemmerer (Molecular Plant Physiology Group, RSBS) was
elected to the Australian Academy of Science in 2006.
Professor Jenny Graves (Comparative Genomics Group,RSBS) was awarded the
Burnrt Medal by the Australian Academy of Science this year. Prof Graves
delivered the associated Burnet Lecture.
Prime Minister’s
Prize for Science 2006
Australia’s highest award for an individual scientist was won by
Professor Mandyam Srinivasan, (whilst in the RSBS Visual Sciences Group),
for his research into bee vision and cognition, which has led to the development
of pioneering computer vision systems.
R.M. Johnston Memorial Medal of the Royal Society of Tasmania
Professor Graham Farquhar (Environmental Biology Group, RSBS) was awarded
the 2006 R.M. Johnston Memorial Medal of the Royal Society of Tasmania.
