| Timothy
Cheong RSBS Summer Scholar
Timothy’s
career aspiration is to use his medical expertise
as a specialist, possibly in the area of Ophthalmology,
to work with patients and medical teams in developing
countries. He is rapidly progressing towards that
goal, moving into the fifth year of his medical degree
at the University of Western Australia.
Timothy’s summer project in RSBS was looking
into the potential link between education and the
development of myopia (more commonly known as short
sightedness), in the Visual Sciences Research Group.
Timothy had heard wonderful things about the Summer
Scholar program from former participants and wanted
to experience it for himself. “I wanted to get
a taste of what research is really like to inform
my decision on whether to pursue postgraduate studies
in the future”, Timothy says.
For anyone considering applying for
the Summer Scholar Program, Timothy says, “Apply
for it…it’s
an experience you’ll take with you for the
rest of your life!”
