Important tips for international students considering applying for the EIPRS

1. Applications for EIPRS scholarships are due at the end of August with decisions being made by late November for a start date early the following year.

2. International scholarships are EXTREMELY competitive and many very good people miss out. Each year there are several hundred applicants for about 25 EIPRS scholarships, which are spread across the entire university.

3. Students should already have a Masters or equivalent.

4. Preferably the student should have one or more publications in International peer reviewed journals.

5. Strong letters of reference from your employers and supervisors are essential.

6. Experience in and letters of reference from international research laboratories is helpful.

7. Documented evidence of scholarships and prizes should be included in the application.

8. If you are interested in applying for an EIPRS then you must first contact a potential supervisor after you have checked out their interests on the web site. It's very important for you to see if they are interested in having you as a student. Applications that are not supported by a potential supervisor have almost no chance. (See Masters & PhD Apply section for further instructions on this process).

9. International students must also be able to demonstrate that the ANU English language entry requirements of IELTS 6.5 (no band less than 6.0) or TOEFL 570 (with TWE 4.5) have been met.

10. Because of this extreme competitiveness at ANU prospective Masters Students are ineligible for the EIPRS

11. It is strongly recommended that you also investigate other potential funding options. It may be you are eligible for other forms of assistance from your own country, via international agriculture programs or aid programs. The Australian Government foreign aid program provides for a limited number of scholarships for international students from developing countries to study in Australia these are Australian Development Scholarships and Australian Leadership Awards. 12. You must indicate on your application form whether you still wish to be considered for admission if your application for a scholarship is unsuccessful. You should talk to your nominated supervisor about any other source of funding you might access, and advise them on any external funding applications you have made. There are also a limited number of scholarships provided by Research Groups or Centres within RSBS and these are listed below. Please note that some scholarships are stipend only. In this case students will be liable for tuition fees which will be $20 090 per annum (2007 indicative fee).

13. We want to be sure that you can cover your tuition and living expenses. Paid employment up to 20 hours per week will generally not cover these costs and we strongly advise you to ensure you will be able to meet the costs before deciding to submit an application with us.
